I'm Ridley the Seal.
My mission is to rid single use plastic straws,
one town at a time,
with the help of all #waterwarriors.
DID YOU KNOW...
Plastic straws are not recyclable or biodegradable.
Americans use 500 million single use plastic straws a day.
It takes 200 years to break down into toxic particles
which are ingested by sea animals and the fish we eat.

We are a southern California family who lives in a small coastal town.
We were using an enormous amount ofplastic straws daily
because we thought they were recyclable.
When we were educated about the devastating impact plastic straws
have on our environment, we set out to change our habits.
And it was so easy.
We created the Ridley the Seal character
to draw attention to this cause.
Ridley was lovingly named after the famous olive ridley sea turtle
that had a plastic straw painfully removed from its nostril.
Our campaign was awarded the 2017 Giving Tuesday prize
by the Pacific Marine Mammal Center.
Rarely can children participate in a project and see immediate results.
This is one of those unique opportunities that is tangible for kids,
our #waterwarriors, and has a positive impact.
